[Mercy has been informed of the nature of gift-giving, and even with everything going on (maybe because of it), she's been moved to press forward with the holiday spirit, even if this isn't one of her holidays. There is a small parcel with a letter atop. The parcel contains a kosovorotka top that should be close to Martin's approximate measurements, with any luck.]
Dear Martin,
I have been meaning to reach out to you about a conversation I had a little while ago. It was with a man who said he is the one dearest to your heart. I am so happy for you, my friend, knowing you have that joy here. (Even if I may find myself the slightest bit jealous that he should be the reason you are unavailable for courting.)
We had a discussion regarding his eating habits. I fear for his health over this cold winter, sir. I mean no insult, but he is a very thin fellow and I would like to see him well fed and warm. I thought, perhaps, that I could bring food to him during work as he appears to be a most dedicated scholar. He kept trying to wave this off. I am worried for him. Perhaps we might band together, if you have need of a compatriot, to see some meat put onto his bones?
Kindly, Mercy
P.S. Please let me know if I need to tailor the shirt for you. I was not certain of your measurements and guessed a bit.
[He's surprised to actually find a gift, though is utterly charmed to see what it is and read the note, even if the full hit of the word 'jealous' won't hit him for another fifteen minutes. In the meantime, he's going to try on the shirt, smile a bit, and then take a selfie of him in it and text it to Mercy.]
Thank you for the gift!! It fits great :) Come by sometime and I'd like to repay the favor with some tea I've imported.
Also, I'm glad to hear you spoke to Jon. You're right, and he needs to eat more, and has quite the habit of not doing so. I try to bring him tea and cookies whenever I can but he often squirms his way out of eating. Anything you can do is much appreciated, and you can tell him as much it's from me if he protests.
You look wonderful! Very handsome, sir. I would gladly sup with you whenever might be convenient. Remind me which apartment you are in?
I will chide him most well, if given leave. He is not the first ornery scholar I have had the pleasure to know. My favored tutor, Brother Ainsley, was the Abbey's archivist. Your gentleman love reminds me of him; though, Mr. Jon does seem to be younger. Or he's kept his hair more favorably in his golden years.
Jon and I are in block B, apartment 4! And thank you for doing that for him. We're actually about the same age, but everyone things he looks much older. It's the grey hair, I think. But it's cute so I'm glad he has it :)
Is he really? I think it is more his disposition that lends itself to thinking he may be older. He speaks as I might expect a man who has seen the seasons turn thrice as many as mine might. I spoke to him of the small concerns: his health and comfort, and he seemed to dismiss them for larger troubles. Ones that lurk on the horizon, but have no bearing on his life from one day to the next.
Well, we have seen a lot back at home. But he's always sounded like that. He just tends not to think of himself. Or worse, badly of himself, so he doesn't deserve the kindness of others. Which is why I sincerely appreciate anytime someone offers to go a little over the necessary to be nice to him. He doesn't exactly go out of his way to be nice either, but it's mostly stress.
[He loves Jon. He loves Jon so much. But also, Mercy is quickly becoming the perfect candidate for 'make Jon feel better' whenever Martin can't be around, and damn right he's going to take that when Jon sometimes seems determined to be miserable.]
I'm really thankful you see the good in him. More people should.
He is the one you love. I count your judgement well, Martin. Even if I were to see every flaw, it would seem to me there must be some hidden goodness within to have your heart. I will be a pest to him, even if he does not much appreciate it.
